Between the years 1579-1600 John ARTURE/ ARTUR and his heirs were licenced to brew and serve meals and cooked food at the George Inn, Stoke by Clare. Clare Manor Court Rolls May 5th 1579 (21st year of Elizabeth) . Will of 21st Jan 1583. John Artur of Stoke by Clare. To my wife Agnes and John my Son. All my goods equally divided between them. Both executors of his will.. Proved 11th June 1584.

Mary mar John Hesgay 1745 which shows that this is the marriage of Mary daughter of Edward & Susan Arthy ( a widow in 1747). The poor rate records show a lot of payments for the support of the children Mary & Matha 1741-1748 and a number of these payments are to widow Arthy for the support of the children. So maybe the children stayed with their grandmother Susan Arthy rather than remaining with their mother.

This marriage and the three baptisms were found many years ago but until (Nov 2022) have remained unsolved.
22nd April 1749 The Ipswich Journal This newspaper snippet confirms that William of Manningtree was a baker : Presumably his premises were being advertised to let because he was leaving for Mildenhall.
To let at Midsummer next or sooner if desired. A well-accustomed Baking Office at Manningtree in Essex, near the Market place,with a very good House, and other conveniences, now in the Occupation of Wm Arthy. For further particulars enquire of Mr henry Woodruffe, baker of Colchester, or Mr John Payne, Baker of Ipswich.
12th Nov 1763 The Ipswich Journal Wanted at Mildenhall in Suffolk, a journeyman baker. Such a one coming well recommended, may have constant work ; Wm Arthy.
24th Sept 1768 The Ipswich Journal To be let and entered upon at Michaelmas next; at Mildenhall, a market town in Suffolk, A very good-accustomed house and baking office; the utensils to be taken by the incoming tenant. For particular enquiries of Wm Arthy, the present tenant. These articles published in The Ipswich Journal confirm William & Hannah Arthy had moved to Mildenhall.
